My Midwifery Journey #1

I am officially a student midwife!

One day I must have just thought "I want to be a midwife for the rest of my life." Now that I think about it, that's an extremely scary thought yet at the same time not scary at all. That's how I know that I'm doing the right thing.

Now, here's the story that I seem to have told a thousand times. Brace yourselves...it's a long one! For those who don't want to read it, skip all the purple text! :)

Results Day Stress

How To Revamp Your Study Habits for Better Grades
Source: Pinterest

Education is stressful. GCSE's are stressful. A-Levels are insanely and unpredictably stressful. Mocks are surprisingly stressful. Revision will forever be stressful.

So you'd think that on the day of your last exam, be it GCSE's, A-Levels e.t.c. You'd finally feel relaxed. Well the good news is you do. For the time being. But slowly the realisation that results day is slowly approaching and you feel stressed again...that is if you're relying on the grades to go further with education. Suddenly you loose your appetite, sleep is a distant memory and everything puts you on edge. But there's nothing you can do.

Before exams you would feel guilt if you weren't revising but what do you feel when there's no revising left to do? Hopelessness? No. Nerves? Not exactly. A stomach full of butterflies? Yes. But that feeling is constant! Remedies? There are none. Well, none that last for more than a day. Especially when your parents will just spontaneously bring it up, like you're not already thinking about it in every waking moment of the day...and night.

Then comes the night before the big day. Some people go to bed early to wake up early but if you're anything like me, you can't get yourself to sleep. The adrenaline is whizzing around you're body like there's no tomorrow. So you end up lying in bed thinking about how you'll react to every situation possible for the next day. Wondering if it's going to be a quick in and out of school, whether you'll open that dreaded envelope with friends or in a corner where no one will see you. Do you just let your emotions flow or hold them in if it's bad news.

A little advice for the A-Level students, if you haven't already, collect all the phone numbers and grade requirements for every university you can think of just in case you need to go through clearing. Thinking about whether it'll be worth doing a third year at school or taking a gap year and revise in your own time if you need to retake anything.

All of a sudden everything seems like it could be make it or break it.

But seriously?
IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY.
What ever happens will happen and as long as you know you've tried your best and given it your all then just deal with life as it comes.

Trust me. I've been through it all, sometimes it was good news but most times it wasn't and to be honest, I believe in "everything happens for a reason" Every fall makes you stronger. The deeper you fall, the more you learn and the wiser you become.

Exams do not tell you what type of person you are or will be. Grades don't define us. Just remember that on results day.

Good Luck!!!

After months of learning I have finally passed my driver's test and am on the road on my own!
I'll be honest with you, being on the road isn't as great as it sounds when you don't know where you're going...

I've grown up in my city and could probably tell you how to get to places either on foot or by bus BUT never have I ever taken much notice as to where I am when in the car. Don't know about you but I always zone out when I'm sitting in the passenger seat and as if by magic I arrive at my destination!

There's so much of my own city to re-learn and explore from a different point of view. That's my project this summer. I want to be able to know my city inside out! Let the adventure commence!

For those who are learning - You can do this!!
For those who have a test soon - Good Luck!!
And for those who are already on the road... Happy driving! :D

Procrastination

It's exam season so likelihood is at least one of you reading this post is supposed to be revising. I would shake my head and tut but the truth is, I'm meant to be revising right now but instead I'm doing this. In my last post I said I wasn't going to be uploading anything until July but procrastination got the better of me...

Knowing that I have exams ahead and having purchased and borrowed as many revision guides as possible you'd think I'd be prepared. That is simply not the case.

After years of exams, I have been able to develop my procrastination skills. I've somehow even managed to trick myself into thinking that the things I'm doing instead of revising is greatly important!

So here are 6 things that all procrastinators have done at some point:

  • Pretending to work. Laying out all your revision and opening all your books to the right pages before watching a film on the laptop or going on social media. As soon as you hear someone within walking distance of your room, you stop what you're doing and make it look like you're revising.

  • When your parents ask you how revision is going and you simply answer with "it's okay" because you know it'll satisfy them enough not to ask you any more questions because they think you're under stress. When in actual fact you're shitting enough bricks to build a house as all you can remember are the different pictures in your revision guide but not having a clue on what it's about.

  • Turning down a day trip with the parents telling them that you have way too much work to do and time is precious. This way you don't feel guilty for not revising when you're out because at least if you stay at home you've given yourself the choice to revise. That of course never happens.

  • You somehow end up watching hundreds of procrastination videos on Youtube and realise that pretty much the whole world does it...then wonders how on earth anyone manages to pass their exams.

  • Your room suddenly becomes immaculate because tidying your bedroom has somehow become your top priority.

  • You convince yourself that you'll feel energised after taking a nap knowing that you'll wake up more tired than you were before.

Let me know what you do when you procrastinate!

p.s. Procrastination is not recommended and if you have a remedy for this please please please let me know!! haha!

Update

Hey all!

I know, I know, it's been a while...a long while.
So let me give you the 411 on what you've missed.

I have offers for university!! This September I'll be a student midwife - eek!!
So I've been revising like crazy for my up coming exams hence why I haven't had the time to write any posts :( busy busy busy! I have however been keeping up with my monthly meals but again not had the time to review them :(

I've also been learning to drive and between you and me...it's going terribly. Terrible isn't even the word :/ Anyway, not long until my exams are over and I'll be back with (hopefully) regular blog posts on all sorts. Also just want to say...I went to see S Club 7!!!!!! It was an evening of childhood memories and 90s outfits. So much fun!

I'll be back with another blog post end of June so keep me in your diaries! Thinking about doing a haul for all things uni related too so let me know what you want to read!

Leave me a comment below telling me what you've been up to for the last couple of months and if you're at uni, what your essentials are for surviving the student life!

One of life's most valuable lessons

Hello everyone!

I was browsing the children's section in TK Maxx because the inner child in me just couldn't resist having a look at all the toys kids these days are playing with! When I came across their book section. Most of it was alphabet books and traditional fairytales but tucked away in the corner was a small pile of big picture books - the ones that are perfect for bedtime.

I picked one up just because I liked the cover of it *STARS* (I know, I know, never judge a book by it's cover) and I read it.

Resolution Update #January

January has flown by and before I know it, it'll be time for next years resolution!

I must admit starting a health kick straight after Christmas is so much easier said than done! After having a good 2 weeks of big meals and snacking on festive treats really took a toll on my resistance on food.
